I taught English in Kiev for a short time before my partner, Elena Yovovich, and I were attacked, almost kidnapped and had to run for our lives. We escaped from Ukraine, to Turkey where we bought a sailboat, without knowing how to sail, and crossed oceans to get to my home in Western Canada. We lived to tell the story.
